Purple Emperor

On 11th July 2018 a female Purple Emperor butterfly was seen in the foliage between Shell Hide and the Barge Pond. This was the second sighting of a Purple Emperor in the last 5 years, the first being a male in the Paddock on 16th July 2013.

The fact that this was a female raises hopes of further sightings of this rare and elusive butterfly in the future.
